The Differences Between Cotton & Polyester wax fabric prints

Seven aspects to show the differences

If you are looking for more details, kindly visit Huayan.

I.In terms of materials, cotton is a natural fiber, while polyester is a man-made fiber. It can be seen from the raw material that cotton fiber is more natural and environmentally friendly, and polyester is a more resource-consuming material.

II. From the perspective of time-consuming, the production cycle of planting cotton is relatively long, and the entire production cycle is relatively long, but because we do not need to wait for the cotton of the year to produce products, the production and delivery period is almost unaffected; while polyester is refined from petroleum products, the relative cycle is relatively short. The raw material oil is non-renewable. The more developed the less, the less the resource, the more expensive it will be. In the long run, cotton products are more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

III. From the appearance point of view, cotton fabric is softer, whi, le polyester is more lustrous and brighter. Of course, this is related to do with the choice of printing or dyeing colors.

IV. From the perspective of feel, cotton cloth is softer, good for skins, and never generates static electricity, while polyester is relatively stiffer, which determines their different uses.

In terms of breakdown, cotton has 4 kinds of hand feels: real wax, cotton feel, and the softness of normal fabrics. Waxy hand feeling :smooth, shiny, with the silky feel of a candle. Soft hand feeling: very soft, like cotton wool (the normal hand feels slightly stiffer than the soft one). Hard feeling, especially hard, like cardboard, but has a higher temperature than the texture. It is formed by calendering and has a certain waterproof effect. It is more suitable for banners.

Polyester has two hand feelings: soft, not the same as soft as cotton fabric, similar to the normal hand feeling of cotton cloth, and suitable for making shirts. It is quite wide and slightly stiff, suitable for suits, men's business shirts and banners.

V. From the point of view of use, cotton is used in a wider range. Generally, cotton products can be used from close-fitting shirts, skirts, headscarves to outerwear, bedding, and furniture sofa covers, curtains, etc.; while polyester fabric products, It is best to use turban coats and furniture that do not directly touch the skin. Cotton products are not as easy to dry as polyester. After washing, polyester products are dried in the air or wind.

VI. From the price point of view, the overall price of cotton is relatively high, and the unit price of cotton products is 2-3 times that of polyester, which varies according to the different raw materials and yarn counts. For relatively high-end designs and products, it is recommended to choose cotton cloth, which is relatively high-end. Compared with those who want to have more product choices at the same cost, it is recommended to choose polyester material.

VII. From the perspective of fastness, the color fastness and abrasion fastness of polyester are higher than that of cotton textile. Polyester can be used for a long time without fading and abrasion.

In summary, if it is for festival use, we recommend polyester products, which are cost-effective and brighter. If it is mainly worn next to the skin, cotton products are recommended. If it is a headscarf that is more in the sun, please use cotton products. Cotton has better heat transfer and does not feel too hot. If it is used for putting more goods on the headscarf, it is recommended to use polyester material because it is resistant. The abrasiveness is better.

Comparing the advantages of cotton and polyester fabrics in details

I.What is the advantage of cotton wax print fabrics african?

1.  Comfortable: humidity balance. Pure cotton fiber can absorb moisture from the surrounding atmosphere. Its moisture content is 8-10%, and it feels soft but not stiff when contacting the skin. If the humidity increases, the surrounding temperature is higher, the water content in the fiber will all evaporate and disperse, so that the fabric keeps the state of water balance, so that people feel comfortable.

2.  Heat or cool preservation character: due to the cotton fiber is a poor conductor of heat and electricity, heat conduction coefficient is extremely low, and because of the cotton fiber porous, high elasticity, between fiber can accumulate a large amount of air, the air is a poor conductor of heat and electricity, so the cotton textile fiber has good heat or cool preservation, pure cotton fabric dress makes people feel cosy.

3.  Heat resistance: pure cotton fabric heat resistance can be good, below 110℃, will only cause the evaporation of water on the fabric, will not damage the fiber, so pure cotton fabric at room temperature, wearing use, washing printing and dyeing on the fabric have no effect, thus improving the washing resistance of pure cotton fabric wear performance.

II.What is the advantage of Polyester wax print fabrics?

1.  The fabric is lithesome and the fiber is strong, so, the tearing strength is higher.Heat resistant polyester is made by melt spinning process. After forming, the fiber can be heated and melted again, so it belongs to thermoplastic fiber. The melting point of polyester is higher, and the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity of polyester fiber are smaller, so the heat resistance and thermal insulation of polyester fiber is higher. It's the best among synthetic fibers.

      2.  The disperse dyes deliver the highest colorfastness and bright and saturated colors. It has   good elasticity. The elasticity is close to that of wool, and can be almost completely recovered when stretched 5% ~ 6%. Crease resistance more than other fibers, that is, the fabric does not crease, good dimensional stability. The elastic modulus is 22 ~ 141cN/dtex, which is 2or 3 times higher than nylon. Polyester fabric has high strength and elastic r, ecovery ability, so it is firm, durable, wrinkle resistant and ironing free.

    3.  100% polyester wax print fabrics are the highest cost performance products. Good thermoplasticity is because of its smooth surface and tight molecular arrangement, polyester is one of the most heat-resistant synthetic fabrics. It is thermoplastic and can be made into pleated skirts with long-lasting pleats.

Waxed Cotton Thread vs. Waxed Polyester Thread - Crystaldreams

When it comes to making bracelets, necklaces, and other jewelry accessories, choosing the right thread is crucial. Two of the most commonly used options are waxed cotton thread and waxed polyester thread. Each has its own characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages that can affect the final outcome of your project.

What is waxing?

Waxing is a process in which the thread is coated with a thin layer of wax, improving its strength, durability, and ease of handling. Thanks to this finish, the threads have greater rigidity, are less prone to fraying, and have a shiny appearance that enhances the design of the pieces created.

Waxed Cotton Thread

This type of thread is made from natural cotton fibers and coated with wax to increase its strength and make it easier to braid or knot.

Advantage:

  • Natural look and soft to the touch.

  • Flexible and easy to handle.

  • Available in a wide variety of colors and thicknesses.

  • Allows you to make well-defined knots, ideal for techniques such as macramé.

  • Biodegradable and more ecological than polyester.

Disadvantages:

  • Less resistant to water and moisture, which can cause wear over time.

  • It may fray if cut without sealing the ends.

  • The wax can wear off with use, losing some of its initial finish.

Waxed Polyester Thread

Waxed polyester thread is made from synthetic polyester fibers and also receives a wax coating to improve its strength and handling.

Advantage:

  • High durability and resistance to moisture and wear.

  • It does not lose its shape or elasticity with prolonged use.

  • It does not fray easily, making it easy to handle.

  • Available in a wide range of colors and thicknesses.

  • UV resistant, making it ideal for everyday or outdoor accessories.

Disadvantages:

  • Less ecological due to its synthetic composition.

  • It may be stiffer and less easy to knot compared to cotton.

  • Some users prefer the more natural look of cotton thread.

Which one to choose?

The choice between waxed cotton and waxed polyester thread depends on the type of accessory you want to create and the conditions to which it will be exposed.

  • If you're looking for a more natural, biodegradable material with a softer feel, waxed cotton is an excellent option.

  • If you need a thread that is more water resistant, durable and doesn't fray, the waxed polyester is the best choice.

Both types of thread are ideal for creating bracelets and necklaces, offering a wide variety of colors and thicknesses to suit any design. The important thing is to choose the material that best suits your needs and aesthetic preferences.

Feel free to experiment with both and find out which one works best for your creations!
