Viewing a thread - Need to buy a manual pistol grip grease gun.
Southeast ColoradoI stated once on this forum that I would probably have a mental breakdown some day due to leaky non working grease guns and tips. I'm getting closer every day.
Despite the above fact.........I drove the swather over my only "somewhat" reliable gun a couple of days ago and need to replace it. I searched this forum but no one wants to talk about manual guns........only electric. I've got a decent electric but still like to keep a manual gun around. Is anyone proud of their grease gun or has anyone else had a brand that I dang sure should avoid? Thanks

Manual one from Deere that has a high pressure stroke and a regular stroke! At least it does not leak grease past the seal and come out the handle. Was good until I left it lay on the combine and went to the field and lost it!
I've had good luck with my bluepoint manual grease gun.
As for leaking grease, in my experience that's been technique. Most people use the barrel plunger to expel spent cartridges. Then when you pull it back, the plunger smears the wall of the barrel with grease, and when you load a fresh cartridge, it pushes that grease below the plunger. Eventually you have grease leaking from the bottom of the barrel.
I've gone to pulling the spent cartridge out without moving the plunger, and no longer have grease leaking from the bottom of the barrel on any of my guns.
Central NDIDK I have a hand gun for about every tractor and combine and a few extras...They all mostly all have issues. (:
I think the best one I have is an Alemite. But it hasnt been around for very long yet to prove it self.Guys will swear by the Lock and lube tip, but Ive got one laying ina drawer somwhere awaiting to be put on and I think it will stay there because ........well.....Id like so see someone come here and grease my Rowse mowers up a couple of times to show me how it is done with grease tip that is so big it wont fit into a NewHolland mower head to find any grease zerks and the same for all the universal joints and the constant velosciety joint, there is no way for it to fit into the openings and the sheild holes.
I dont know what tips are realy what I would call good ones.... I pick up some different tips every so often from different sources and they all go bad it seems.I think the best one I have has to be the one that came on my 18 volt M ILWAUKEE (edited to correct the brad name ) electric gun and will have to get some more like it to replace my hand guns.
.
Ive had some JD guns and they must have sold different ones than the ones I have because they were junky, the pump got loose and puked grease on all of themand soon the plungers would pull out too far and bind up... and the rear seals behind the cartrige we not terrible but did leak there too.
The photo below looks simmilar to the one I have but Im not sure about the tip being the same.
