Types of Tabletop Plastic Chain

Tabletop plastic chain conveyors offer versatile configurations to cater to various applications, including the specific requirements of conveying different products, the desired speeds, and accommodating any elevation changes. This flexibility extends to the selection of chain types, ensuring efficiency across diverse operational needs.

Plain Chain

The plain chain is the go-to option for most applications, characterized by its flat surface which allows products to ride smoothly. It's highly compatible with a wide range of products while possessing a low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for accumulation processes. Elevation changes of up to 5° can be managed effectively using plain chains.

Flocked Chain

For items that require extra protection against scratches and markings, the flocked chain provides a solution. This chain features a soft black fabric applied over a standard plain chain, significantly minimizing the risk of damage to delicate products. Additionally, lighter items can be effectively accumulated on flocked chains.

Friction Chain

Incorporating a TPU friction insert, these chains can manage inclines reaching up to 25°. They can accommodate a wide variety of products and are often utilized in conveyor systems where inclines need to be traversed without the risk of slippage. It’s common practice to separate conveyor systems at inclined sections, employing friction chain solely on those segments.

Molded Friction Chain

Similar to friction chains, these chains contain a friction insert that is molded directly into the chain structure. This design helps it achieve the same steep inclines of 25° as traditional friction chains, but with a lower profile that enhances product transfer between conveyors.

Cleated Chain

Designed with a molded 15mm (.6") cleat, cleated chains are optimal for applications requiring positive part movement on steep inclines. Clients have the opportunity to specify the spacing of the cleats based on their operational needs.

Safety Chain

In the case of wider chains, gaps may appear between links as they navigate turns, creating potential pinch points. Safety chain is specifically developed to mitigate this risk, featuring a 'fin' that covers trailing gaps, ensuring worker safety. More insights on safety chains can be found in related blog posts.

Gripper Chain

Specialized for use with gripper elevators, often called wedge conveyors, these chains are designed to securely grip products between them during operations. Detailed information about these chains can be accessed through the corresponding blog posts addressing gripper elevators.

Chain Bases

Beyond the variety of chain surfaces, an array of base materials is also available, tailored to specific applications.

POM

The standard base material, Acetal POM, is suitable for most products and is recognized for its off-white color.

Anti-Static

Utilizing PermaStat POM, anti-static chains are designed to prevent unwanted static discharge, making them ideal for use in electronics and related applications. These chains are typically black in color.

Kevlar

For high-speed or abrasive product applications, chains can be reinforced with Kevlar, significantly reducing chain dust and enhancing performance. Kevlar-infused chains are visually distinguishable by their pale yellow hue.

Our Applications Engineering team stands ready to assist you in selecting the most suitable chain for your needs, including practical testing with varied materials to achieve the best compatibility.

Please note that not all chains are applicable to every conveyor size; refer to individual product pages on our website for available chain options. Certain surface types may not be compatible with either Kevlar or anti-static bases.
